Performed from the stage of Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts

Co-hosted by The Registry Theatre

With theatres closed for the foreseeable future, the Oakville Centre continues its innovative live stream concert series featuring some of Canada’s finest performers. The concerts also assist in fundraising for sister theatres, by inviting them to co-host the concert which is performed live from the Oakville Centre.

Since grade school in the 60’s, when she and her brother Clark appeared in Mirvish productions of Porgy and Bess, and South Pacific, Molly Johnson has been steeped in music. At 15 she fronted a disco band, then art rock group Alta Moda, followed by the harder rocking Infidels, which won the 1992 JUNO Award for Most Promising Group of the Year. Since then Molly has released numerous cds, including her beautiful, and powerful tribute to Billie Holiday, the JUNO nominated Because of Billie. Molly has received many awards, including another JUNO in 2009 for Jazz Album of the Year for her cd Lucky. That same year Molly received the National Jazz Award for Jazz Vocalist of the Year.

In addition to her music career, Molly is dedicated to supporting communities in need. She established the Kumbaya Foundation and Festival in 1992, in support of people living with HIV/AIDS, and continues to work with several charitable organizations. Her humanitarian work has been recognized with the Queen’s Jubilee medal, and in 2008 Molly become an Officer of The Order of Canada. In 2016, Molly launched the annual Kensington Market Jazz Festival.

Molly’s soul and jazz influences are on full display on her 2018 cd Meaning To Tell Ya. Produced by GRAMMY Award winner Larry Klein (Joni Mitchell, Tracy Chapman, Norah Jones), the cd features Canadian jazz greats such as pianist Robi Botos. Enjoy Molly’s unique vocal style in the intimate setting of your home.
