Tamarak

40th anniversary re-union. Guelph-based Tamarack was a seminal step along the path of promoting and expanding Canadian traditional, and contemporary folk music. Their début album Music of Canada consisted almost entirely of traditional songs. Later albums (17 in total) included original songs that maintained traditional folk/roots subjects and style. James Gordon, Molly Kurvink, Alex Sinclair, and others reunite to celebrate this milestone of a legendary Canadian folk group.

Dave Gunning & JP Cormier

Part of the Registry Roots Weekend!

PLEASE NOTE: As many are inquiring due to inclement weather, as of 4:00pm on the day of the performance, this show will be going ahead as planned.

J.P. Cormier and Dave Gunning, both individually celebrated and critically acclaimed, have just finished a new recording and will be bringing it to Folk Night! These two comrades have been playing and writing together for over 20 years including two cross Canada tours in the late 90’s when Dave was J.P.’s bass player and the 2002 Stompin’ Tom Connors tour. Over the more recent years they’ve been known to show up at one another’s shows and to share their stages together and on days off at home in Pictou County are often seen hanging out together. They have a vocal blend and ability to play the guitar together that very much parallels their brotherly bond and somehow the sum becomes greater than the parts. After all the miles and twists and turns on the road one thing is for certain: their love of travelling together and singing and playing together. We welcome Dave back again, and look forward to introducing JP to Folk Night audiences!

Joe Jencks & Si Kahn

Joe Jencks is an international touring performer, songwriter, entertainer, and educator, based in Chicago. From Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center in New York, to coffee houses, festivals, spiritual communities, and schools, Joe Jencks has spent the last 18 years touring full time. His songs have traveled to every continent via his own performances, radio, CDs, web casts, and other musicians. He is noted for his unique merging of musical beauty, social consciousness, and spiritual exploration. Jencks weaves a diverse web of stories with brilliant musical skill, ensnaring even the most rigid of hearts, inviting them to open. His songs invite us to live inside of our passions and our beliefs.

“In a world rife with many talented songwriters, Si Kahn stands alone.” – Bluegrass News. Si’s 18th CD Bristol Bay was released on June 15th, 2013, produced by Jens Kruger of the Kruger Brothers. It was the #1 CD for July on the international Folk DJ List, the fourth of Si’s CDs to win that honor. Si himself was named the #1 Artist, with the most airplay for the month. At the annual Folk Alliance International conference in February 2011, Si was publicly honored with a special Triple Crown Award for being the #1 Artist, and having the #1 CD and #1 Song for 2010. His songs have been translated into at least half a dozen languages, and covered by the likes of Kathy Mattea, Peggy Seeger, Planxty, Dick Gaughan and The Fureys.
