Conversation with Baseball’s Bill “Spaceman” Lee

Presented in Collaboration with Morneau Family Law Solutions

Bill “Spaceman” Lee is a southpaw in every sense of the term. He pitched for the Boston Red Sox (1969-1978) and the Montreal Expos (1979-1982); he was inducted into the Red Sox Hall of Fame for most games pitched (321) and the third-highest win total (94) by a left-hander. Off the field, Lee is known for his counterculture behaviour, outspoken manner, and unfiltered comments on everything from Maoist China and population control to Greenpeace and marijuana. His criticism of baseball management for releasing his teammate Rodney Scott led to his being dropped from both the Red Sox and the Expos, and the end of his professional career.

Post-baseball life has been busy for Bill; he’s written three books, been the subject of a documentary and a feature length film (with Josh Duhamel portraying Bill) and, in 2016, ran for Governor of Vermont; there’s never a dull moment with the Spaceman!

Hosting the conversation will be Richard Griffin, who spent the last 25 years as a baseball columnist for the Toronto Star and is currently the Director of Baseball Media for the Toronto Blue Jays. Before that, from 1970 to 1994, Richard served as the Director of Public Relations for the Montreal Expos and had a front-row seat for and occasionally had to “clarify” all that was Spaceman. You can be sure that there are some stories to be told!

A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Sexual Assault Support Centre of Waterloo Region.
