Free story-writing workshops for school-aged youth, and children
presented by Ciarán Myers
Parents and adult caregivers are welcome to arrange & participate
The Registry Theatre is offering free story telling workshops presented by Kitchener-Waterloo playwright, director, actor, and teacher Ciarán Myers.
With support from The Registry Theatre and Ontario Presents, the province-wide network of performing arts organizations, Ciarán is offering a series of one time, story writing workshops for school-aged youth, and children.
The 2 hour workshops are free of charge, and presented in person by Ciarán with the utmost safety precautions.
Ciarán will work outdoors at the child’s home, in a nearby park, or indoors at the Registry Theatre, which is covid 19 sanitized, and where there is plenty of room for physical distancing.
Young people are already experts at creating new original stories! Using a fun and a breezy tone, integrating simple warm-ups, and working with the child’s own original ideas, Ciarán will use traditional story-structure elements that can help any writer, at any age, and any level, to organize their story in order to create clarity, and reach a satisfying, and artful ending.
Ciarán holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in writing, and is an alumnus of the University of Waterloo, Stratford Festival‘s Playwrights Retreat, and Scotland’s Tron Theatre, and Traverse Theatre Directing Programme.
“Ciaran Myers values the traditions of writers before him, then takes that understanding to write what is relevant for today’s audience”. Multi-disciplinary artist Janis Jo Lee.
After enough workshops have taken place, Ciarán will assemble all the stories into a single finished product. This new anthology will be shared with all participants, and with our community if a public performance performance is possible, or an internet streaming event.
