Description
The hands on the clock were turning.
World War I was forgotten when Europe headed into chaos again in 1939. In America, people drank their cares away in dance halls and taverns listening to hot swing music and paying little attention to the plight of the rest of the world.
Laura, Amanda and Tom Wingfield lived in these times, and like many Americans, lived their lives in a fantasy world.
Tom went to the movies and often came home drunk, while Amanda lived in a world of the past where gentlemen callers brought her bright yellow jonquils. Laura Wingfield lived in a mysterious place that was hers alone. Laura lived beneath
the shadow of the sweeping clock hands, and her tragic destiny was to be suspended there, as if time moved forward without her.
